Biography
Laura Henri holds a M.M. from
Duquesne University in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and a B.M. from
Grove City College in Music Education. She has studied piano under the direction of Kathy Sutcliffe, Dr. Richard Konzen, Dr. Melva Heubert, Dr. Carole Riley and
David Allen Wehr. She has also studied organ with Dr. Richard Konzen and voice with Lynne Williams and
Michelle Jacobeen.
Before relocating to Alexandria, Laura maintained a large private studio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also taught in several school districts throughout the Pittsburgh region. She was a general music and choral teacher in the Baldwin-Whitehall school district, an elementary music teacher at St. Bonaventure School, and the band director at Dorseyville Middle School. She also worked as the assistant percussion advisor to the Fox Chapel High School Marching Band.
While studying for her Masters at Duquesne, Laura was awarded a graduate assistantship and taught Beginning and Intermediate Class piano for undergraduate students. She also taught piano in the
City Music Center School for children. Laura received a
United States Achievement Academy All-American Scholar Award and was named to the list of
Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. Her academic performance led her to being inducted into
Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honors Society.
In addition to maintaining a private studio, Laura was also the director of music at
St. Joseph Parish where she worked with the adult choir, hand bell choir, and children's choir, and was the organist for all weekend masses and feast days.
Laura is currently an active member of the
Music Teachers National Association, the
Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association and the
American College of Musicians/National Guild of Piano Teachers. While in Pittsburgh she was a member of the
Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association, a Board Member of the
Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association,
Tuesday Musical Club,
American Guild of Organists and a member of the Board of Directors of the
Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania. She has also been an adjudicator for students participating in the
National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festivals.
In her spare time, Laura enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband Philip, watching football and hockey, reading and cooking.
